With the third Ashes test at Headingley just around the corner one London chain of sports bars are giving out FREE pints to the Aussies in their ‘All Aussies Welcome’ initiative.
Tensions have been running high between England and Australia since their intense match at Lord’s. Memorably, Johnny Bairstow’s dismissal by Alex Carey was deemed as ‘just not cricket’ by home fans, including by the PM Rishi Sunak.
However, never let it be said us so-called ‘whinging poms’ are bearing a grudge! In the spirit of the game, ETM bars want to inject some camaraderie back into the game.
For the duration of the third Ashes test, they will be handing out a complimentary pint of Heineken to any Aussie who rocks up to watch the match armed with their Australian passport. The gesture of goodwill is a response to England coach Brendan McCullum’s recent statement that he couldn’t imagine the two teams sharing a beer anytime soon.
As our Antipodean cousins might say, “Fair dinkum, mate!”
