Quite frankly it’s been a horrible few days for the natural world; Sudan, the last northern white male rhino died all but bringing to an end an entire sub-species. It’s easy to be depressed, but not everyone has given up hope for a better future for the natural world.
On Saturday join millions of people across the globe marking WWF’s Earth Hour 2018 to send a reminder about the fragility of our planet. The annual lights switch off highlights the vulnerability of the earth’s natural resources.
Did you know over the past quarter of a century, 40% of our forests have disappeared, 50% of populations of land species have declined and freshwater species have dwindled by 80%? Bleak.
Sudan, the last rhino of his kind, died this week
Some of the world’s most famous landmarks will be turning off their lights from the Sydney Opera House to the Eiffel Tower and Edinburgh Castle. In London, Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral and Buckingham Palace will go black to mark the occasion.
You can show your solidarity by going lights out for 60 minutes. 9,000,000 Brits did it last year. It’s only an hour and there’s lots of fun stuff to do when it’s dark! So buy some candles, host your own earth party and and join in.
Sat 24th March, 8.30pm – 9.30pm: Earth Hour 2018, worldwide
