Days starting to feel longer? Well from this Monday they officially will be. Yes, it’s the spring equinox; that auspicious moment where the length of the day matches the duration of the night as the balance tips in favour of the light.
For most of us that means squinting up when we leave the office at the gold disc that’s still there! But for others this 20th March is a sacred day.
The Druid Order will be holding their FREE to watch annual procession by Tower Hill Terrace. Why here? The busy thoroughfare used to be a sacred mound – and wide open space – for the Celts and their Druid Order.
Look out for several dozen participants in customary white robes silently walking in procession. Those taking part carry banners, perform blessings and scatter seeds to encourage a fruitful and healthy year ahead.
“If you would visualise your life as the passage of the Sun through the sky then you would find the harmony that you seek,” says Druid Order member, Thomas Maughan.
Won’t lie Thomas, that sounds like a big ask for Londoners piling onto a sardine-squashed tube every day, but we take our hat off to anyone who can!
Fancy some trivia? The exact date of the equinox varies depending on the calendar, falling on either March 20th or 21st each year.
